Last weekend ...

Every weekend is more tiring than a working week as far as hubby & I are concerned. Its because we have longer hours attending to the lil one and with deprived sleep most of the time, its not really something we eagerly look forward to. Yeah we love him but ..... I am just being honest.

Well, yes, we play with him, spend time with him watching DVDs, reading together, singing in the car on our way home each evening bla bla bla but come weekend, we will like ... aiyah .. aiyoh .. so tired lah.

We dropped off lil one with my mom after visiting grandma on Saturday morning since its lunch & nap time for him. Off we went over to Mid Valley to get some groceries as well as some necessities for our impending weekend get-a-way this coming Sat. Its going to be a very short trip with mom & my aunt and cousin with their lil boy who is almost the same age as Bryan.

While at The Gardens, I can't help it but to check out Delectables, owned by a very young and talented lady. Had to try her cuppies! They were good but a tad expensive - RM28 for 3. And that was our indulgence for the week! We didnt even have time for a proper sit down lunch. Sad huh?

And oh! Did I tell you I spotted a real good buy over at Isetan during one of my lunch hour whisk-away?

I grabbed a pair of wedged sandals. It was at RM189.90 with a whopping 70% off! Great deal right? Its perfect for my weekend use since I hardly wear heels since I had Bryan.

Mom asked why I bought such an "old-fashioned" shoe wor. She said it suits her more than me! Gosh! Am I really THAT old fashioned? I thot they looked simple and nice and most of all, very comfy mah ... no meh? Anyway my sis answered her ... you think your daughter is still very young ah? *me blur*

Corelle Corningware Visions & Pyrex Warehouse Sale!!!!

For those of you who missed the previous sale, its time again for some real good bargains I tell ya!

No joke - the sale is really genuine! What I mean is .. they are really really cheap compared to what is sold at the local departmental stores and they also offer the newer designs as well (that is if you are quick enough to grab them!)

During the last sale, I managed to grab a whole set of dinnerware and a set of 3 of the Pyrex cookpots! The prices are pretty unbelievable. Dont believe me? Check this out!

If you are really looking out to buy some dinnersets, make sure you are there early. Cos usually by noon .... only the individual pieces are available.

Will I be there to grab some more? No lah, I have enough to last me this entire marriage! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Wesak Day Prayers

Wesak Day was on 9 May this year and it fell on a Saturday. Being a weekend, I knew the temples would be pretty packed. So we decided to visit the temple on the evening before.

We are frequent visitors to the Buddhist Maha Vihara temple located at Tun Sambanthan. This where I took the brat for his blessings each year on his birthday. This is also the temple where we registered our marriage 4 years ago.

I love it for its serenity and peace and most importantly, when it comes to large festive celebrations, this place is really well-organised with lots of volunteers offering their time and services to the temple. My sis is also a regular volunteer here and serves at this temple every year during Wesak.

Mom also usually buys freshly prepared vegetarian dishes from the various stalls that operate along the road leading into the temple, as we are on full-day vegetarian diet on this day.

I shall not start talking about the fuss the lil one kicked up while we were in the main shrine of the temple receiving blessings. Everyone was looking but I dont care. Biasalah.

We love you & will miss you.

A special dedication to my one and only grand aunt who just passed away today. She was 99.

A woman of strength and courage, a lady full of passion and compassion, a wonderful mother who loved her child so much although she was thousands of miles away in Canada. A woman who gave her love to others unconditionally and without any expectations.

Rest in peace, Yee Bor. Dont worry about anything ya. We will all take good care of each other and will forever remember you as almost our own mother & grandmother.

Bryan's 2nd Birthday

We celebrated the lil fella's birthday last Friday. It was again a family-only affair as I dont see a point in hosting a big birthday celebration since he is too young to understand. Moreover, he does not have any friends of his own yet, right?

Both Mommie & Daddie took the day off to spend some time with him. First thing that morning, we headed off to the Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple for a blessing service.

Then off we went to Aquaria KLCC to let him see some fishes .. but as usual he ran more than anything else! We had to cover the place in 2-3 rounds cos most of the time we had to run after him and did not have a chance to view anything! And since we had to pay a bomb, we had to just view the not-so-impressive fishes. I feel like suggesting to them to have special cheaper prices for us, Malaysians! It's too expensive for what they can offer inside!

By noon, both of us were like dead cows! Sent him back to mom's place for his nap while we went out to collect his cake.

Then it was dinner at Lala Chong .. one of our favourite place for tau fu kang! Its damn good! A bit far .. but once in a blue moon, what the heck!

So glad to be back at home at the end of the day. It was more tiring than going to work! I bless my mom .. who can (no choice, have to) take care of him at least 10 hours a day while we are at work!

Hopefully next year when he turns 3, he will have some friends from his playgroup at his nursery and then perhaps Mommie will hosts a small party for him at our new house then ... yeah!

P/S : Coming to think of it, perhaps I should be the one that needs "blessings" .. oh god! When on earth can I stop the night feeds!!!

What would you have done?

I visited a department store last week looking out for some bargains since I had some cash vouchers with me that will be expiring soon.

I spotted towels at a very good price and decided to purchase 2 pieces. These 2 pieces are of the exact same size and of the same brand but of different quality, hence the price was also different. The first piece I chose was only at RM29.90 and the 2nd piece with a much better quality was at RM59.90. I told my Mom to place it on the counter while I took the brat to the kids section to see if I could find more DVDs for him.

When I returned, the cashier was ready to punch in my purchase. She took the first piece and tried to locate the price tag. The tag was accidentally folded inside the towel by the store assistant who attended to me earlier. The cashier searched and searched and finally found the price tag folded inside the large piece of towel. She scanned it in. Then for the 2nd piece, she assumed that it was the same price and just scanned the first tag again .. meaning it was RM29.90 x 2 and charged me RM59.80 instead of RM89.80

For a brief moment, I rejoiced! Then I asked myself if I should inform her. Then I said, forget it - its not my fault. She was just too lazy to look for the price tag in the 2nd piece! And so yes, I did the evil thing not to inform her! Evil me! Yes! But its still not my fault!

What would you have done?

Instant points redemption @ KLCC

While running an errand at KLCC few weeks back, I bumped into Citibank's credit card points redemption counter on the ground floor. I had already had in mind what are the items I wished to redeem from our hard earned points which hubby & I accummulated for so many donkey years!

Sad to say, those items in the mailed out brochure are not available at these "express" redemption counters. Nevertheless, there are similar items in a different brand and a different amount of total points required.

I ended up redeeming 2 items which I think would be useful in my new home. A "Rowenta" tower fan and a "Thermos" portable coffee centre console consisting of a portable flask and 4 stainless steel mugs. I love the mugs. They come in super-cute size!

Coming to think of it, I think redeeming points this way is way better than the conventional way where they get their agent to process the request and then wait for it to arrive, say 2 months later, via ordinary parcel post! At least now, I get to actually see, touch and check the items before I take them home. From my own experience, I am too lazy to send back defective goods which I previously redeemed online. Feel that its a waste of time to drive to the post office or their service centre. I also dislike online shopping. I tend to feel 'cheated" cos pictures just seems so much nicer or prettier than the real thing. It's just me.

A nice long weekend ...

It was a lovely long weekend away from the office and away from our daily mad rush to & from work each day. We took the opportunity to vist Sunway Pyramid for my dose of massage from Arokaya. Hubby says I am like his car .. needs "servicing" every 3 months .. hahaha. What to do .. my hip bones (or is it the nerves) hurt pretty bad these few weeks, thus, needed a massage to relieve the pain a little. It works for me.

We stopped by "I love Yoo" for a light lunch cos I was feeling a little nausea that day. Surprisingly, a lil food stall like this served real good porridge, yau char kuay, sweet potato balls and of course its yummilicious soy bean milk! My favourite - its Hainanese coffee!!!!

It was a pretty "expensive" lunch for almost RM20 for just fried finger food & soybean + porridge, but it was indeed good. You should try it. Its located just one floor above the skating ring ie same level as Pizza Hut & McDonalds. They also have a branch at The Gardens, Mid Valley. Highly recommended for a light lunch!

Dining Table @ Haus

I think I found the dining table that fits my dining room. It was kinda like a love -hate relationship at first but after I saw this particular table, I just had some feeling for it. I kinda felt like it just fits in well.

Dining tables over here are usually round or rectangular. But recently the trend has been square tables. When I first spotted them around the furniture malls, my first impression was ... they looked like mahjong table! I didnt like the concept.

We visited Haus at both their outlets in Puchong and Damansara Mutiara. They now have a much larger showroom at Tropicana Mall.

As an alternative, we also spotted this rectangular table. This will be our 2nd choice.

Both the dining tables are made from MDF (medium density fibreboard) material and not chipboard of ABS material, so its quite sturdy and solid. Of course, if you compare it to solid wood (like teak) its nothing great.

From what I have observed, they would usually have a 40% discount during their sale time to clear existing stock and colors and once cleared, they would bring in new stock and some new colors but hey, how different can colors of dining tables be, right? So I really dont mind "old stock".

Do you believe in Feng Shui? All I know is the smoother the surface, the faster your "fortune" or "luck" will slip off! So most fengshui masters would actually recommend wood-based dining tables. And the dining table is one big element that matters in our life. Err .. me not fengshui believer or master .. just reading up for fun here & there *smile*.

Practical Valentine's Day Gifts!

If you have read some of my fun tags or meme, you should have realised by now that I am not a shopaholic *not-so-surprised smile*. I am also more stingy with myself than others, meaning, I don't mind buying expensive meals or stuff for hubby or mom but I do mind spending it on myself. Strange eh?

So what did I get myself for Valentine's Day? Something really really practical. I bought a new slingbag that can work for both office & casual use (2-in-1). My old bag was a gift from my sis who bought it from Singapore a couple of years ago. Now so "koyak" and "charn" already. In fact, its not only a Valentine's Day gift, its also a "bonus cum new year" gift too (3-in-1).

And then I bought a purse to replace my 15 year old purse (which I still love to bits!). I really really sayang to replace this purse which I bought in Robinson's Singapore during the good old days. I still remember it costs me S$79 then. At that time, heart so pain but I feel in love with it. Until now, I cannot find another "love" that can match my "love" for my old purse. Love is blind indeed .. hahaha.

What did I get hubby? Nothing really. Cos so far we dont really have the "gift-exchange" thingy that we practise each year, but hubby did ask me if I wanted any special gift in particular. I told him, I will just go get a bag to replace the "koyak" bag that I am using now lor ...

But how can I NOT get hubby anything right? Heeeeee... heeee.... so I baked him a cake. Its not any cake okay, its a CREAM CHEESE LOVE BUTTER CAKE! Yeah, dont play-play. Got money also cannot buy it. Baked it on Friday night, after work, at Mom's place as usual.

You can get the full recipe here but for this version, I added 2 tbsp of fresh milk, and that's it! It was perfect. Not crumbly like the previous time. All gone by the next day!

So how did we spend Valentine's Day? Well, we had to optimise the use of our only day off. I mean, only on Saturdays, we are free to do the things we want to do, without having to get into the office and without having to take care of lil one. And having the house ready soon, we have been spending most of the Saturdays window shopping, ideas-hunting, meeting up with suppliers for kitchen cabinets, interior designers, and also visiting expos and exhibitions every now and then. And last Saturday was no different. Had a follow-up discussion with a kitchen cabinet supplier and an interior designer.

For dinner, I stayed back at Mom's place cos my aunt & cousin was visiting with their lil one so thought maybe my brat could better spend his time playing with his lil cousin too. Dad was happily driving off to spend his Valentine dinner with his entire family. And this is the very first time since we met that we are separated for Valentine's dinner.

So what did you guys do on Valentine's Day?

Lion Dance @ Office

The Lion Dance is pretty customary for corporate organisations or businesses. There are homes too who host this special significant event but as it is pretty costly, not all homes can afford it.

This year, I was "appointed" to be officially in charge of preparing for this at our office. Why I say "appointed" in inverted commas is because they had a meeting to decide who to take charge and I was not in the meeting! Terror management team I have here! We had this on the 3rd day of CNY (as "calculated" by my boss's sifu). At 7am!

So I prepared a red platter, a large pomelo, 5 mandarin oranges, a bunch of fresh salad and a red packet consisting the fee for the lion dance.

Wah, didnt know these days these "kungfu" people can be so professional. After I googled them on the net (they got website okay, dont play play), they sent me a fax for job confirmation! Impressive! For those who are keen on their services, do check out Kee Ling Kok Lion Dance Association (ask for Xand Ting, young man, quite handsome too! Looks even more dashing in his lion dance kungfu pants!).

They do quite a bit of official launches and retail outlet openings such as Marks & Spencers and Eu Yan Sang. They even blessed the opening of Eric Tsang's outlet at Hartamas Shopping Centre ok, dont play play.

Cash 4 Gold

Just got to know about this site Cash 4 Gold that provides cash in exchange for gold. Sounds like a pawnshop that we used to have around town in the 70's? Well, taking about pawnshop, I wonder where they all disappeared. I remember seeing quite a number of those shops during the good old days.

Honestly, when I was very young, my mom used to visit those pawnshops to exchange her jewellery for cash as well. Yeah, we were pretty poor those days. But since coming across this site, things have indeed been given a new twist to the good old pawnshop! Not that I need it at all now but just that such services can be "modernised" too!

Cash 4 Gold makes the process for converting your gold for cash real easy. You just got to go online and register yourself for a gold kit. Once you receive the kit, place your jewellery in it and send it back to Cash 4 Gold via FedEx (which provides for tracking the package easily). Once it arrives, you will be informed by them. And if you sign up for the Fash Cash system, the money will be banked directly into your chosen bank account! Super easy right? And most importantly, it is safe. Check it out!

CNY almost over :-(

It was hard waking up this morning. It is my first day back to work in the new Lunar New Year. After 12 days of being away from the office, actually I was a bit eager to get back to the routine .. simply because it has been darn tiring taking care of my lil one 24-7 for the past 12 days! His unending energy is .. is ... is ... (I have nothing to say, too tired).

Moreover, today is the 9th day of Lunar New Year, and being married to a Hokkien "lang", we had the "tien kong" festival last night. Lots and lots of preparation and had to wait till midnight before we can start our prayers. Probably fell asleep as past 2am this morning and by 6.30am, had to wake up to ensure we dont get stuck in the usual morning traffic as all of KLnites start work today due to the public holiday yesterday to commemorate City Day.

No pictures from me today although we have been eating out every lunch & dinner since the eve of CNY ... just no mood to snap any pics while attending to lil one.

I prayed hard last night for my lil one to sleep without waking up at night for milk or for any reason. Prayed that he would enjoy his night sleep from tonight onwards as he is a big boy now. Prayed that he would be an obedient boy and listen to mommie & daddie's words. So will have to wait and see if it works :-)

Today will be mostly spent blog-hopping as I have not touched my laptop for the past 12 days as well. So my blogger friends, here I come :-)

Gong Xi Fa Cai to you!

Its getting exciting for me. Today will be my last day at the office and from tomorrow onwards, I will start my unofficial Chinese New Year celebrations ... yippee!

I already have plans lined up for 5 out of the 15 lunar new year celebrations and I am sure there are more to come! We have lots of visiting to do and also hosts lots of family and friends at our home too.

Our celebrations start on the eve of the new year whereby Chinese around the world would hosts a REUNION DINNER with their family. And as a married woman, it is customary to spend this dinner with her in-laws. My in-laws have a pretty extended family. There are 10 siblings on my father-in-laws side of the family and we all get together for the reunion dinner each year. With each of them having their own children and grandchildren, there are at least 100 of us at that dinner ... large group huh? If I remember correctly, we had 120 last year *smile*. And each year, we sit down together for a wonderful 8-course meal at Royal China Restaurant (which is part of the Tai Thong Group). And it is never complete without Yee Sang & karaoke all night long!.

On the first day of CNY, it will be our turn to host the extended family in our house. Of course not all 100-odd of them would turn up but still the house will be filled with people from noon till late night. Usually I am in the kitchen all the time, preparing food & drinks. Yes its tiring but thats the true meaning of CNY - food, drinks & some small time gambling too!

Traditionally, only on the 2nd day of CNY are the married woman allowed to go back to her own home for the celebrations. And I have practised this since I got married. So this day, I would wake up early and get prepared. The family would first have our must-have dimsum at Xin Cuisine (we do this every year too!) and after this, hubby & I head to my mom's place and BIL & SIL and his family heads to Melaka, where my SIL is from. Hubby, lil one & I spend the rest of the day there, chatting with my aunts & uncles and cousins, etc. Its nice to meet up with all of them once a year. My mom usually cooks up a storm for today's dinner, which I really appreciate. So thoughtful of her to cook all the food that I enjoy :-) Also on this day, my eldest SIL & her family returns home from Ipoh to celebrate CNY with us.

This year, CNY falls on a Monday & Tuesday and I presume quite a number of us would take the remaining 3 days off as well so that we can enjoy an extended week of holidays. So I will have to look forward to more food & open houses.

I will therefore have limited or even no time to blog at all .... so may I leave you with my sincere wishes for a ...
HAPPY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
GONG XI FA CAI!

What happened over the weekend

It was another busy weekend as usual. In fact, every single day since lil one arrived, there is always not enough time on hand. Leaving the house every morning whilst the sky is dark and only returning after sunset as well. Dinner is usually at 9.30pm every workday. So tiring!

Weekends are even worst! That's because I have lil one to me all day long. He has to cling to me whenever he seems me. He will cry (or pretend to cry) and wants to me hug him or carry him and even sit with him while he watches his favourite DVDs. So tiring!

On Saturday, it was daddie's birthday and daddie decided to spend the day with lil one & mommie at the Zoo! Cool idea eh! Actually its an al-cheapo idea .. cos mommie told daddie that its free entrance on his birthday, so that's why we went :-) Saved Rm15 ..hehehe. It was lil one's maiden trip to the Zoo and oh boy ... all he wanted was to be carried all the way! And only wants to be carried by his mommie! So tiring!

We went home 2 hrs later and fed lil one some noodles and then tried to coax him to have a nap. And a second later, both mommie & daddie were snoring as well :-) So tiring!

In the evening, mommie planned to "belanja" daddie, MIL, SIL & BIL dinner. We headed to Queen's Park for the famous "Golden Pumpkin Porridge Steamboat" ... sounds good leh .. well, yeah, its good! But of course, lil one wont sit still ... we took turns to carry him around. Thank god Queen's Park had a pet store and we took him there to check out the cute cats & lovely puppies. So tiring!

On Sunday, daddie went for his badminton as usual and I decided to spend the day at Mom's place cos I was dead tired. Needed some help with lil one. But Mom was busy making muruku & frying nga-ku for CNY. Tell you a secret, my Mom's muruku is to-die-for!!! I felt so bad bothering Mom on that day. But lil one fell asleep at 1pm for his nap, so I took the opportunity to help Mom with all the frying. Then we spring cleaned the whole house, etc. So tiring!

So that's how we spent the weekend ... so tiring!

Wonders of Facebook

By now, I am sure you are a member of Facebook and have had enjoyed your time there? For me, it has worked wonders! Gosh!

I can't believe I managed to locate quite a number of my ex-school mates, even those from my primary school! Its just amazing to share all the photos online and having this space that keeps us updated on my far & away pals & relatives.

I also "found" my long lost childhood friends that I used to play with every weekend when mom brought us back to visit my grandpa & my uncles during those good old days! Its amazing!

Although revealing too much of yourself over the internet is not a good idea, but it is a brilliant joint if you wish to find long lost pals or share your photos, etc.

Traditional Thai Massage @ Sunway Pyramid

Ever since childbirth, I have a back ache. And as lil one is growing, carrying him constantly does not help ease the pain. And now lil one is 20 months and still insist on carrying him! I have tried several times to either talk nicely to him, raise my voice and scold him and even tried diverting his attention to other things if he wants to be carried. All 3 tricks works but depending on his mood. Sometimes, none of them work, so we have to carry him for a short while.

Anyway, wanted to recommend you my usual massage place. Its called Arokaya, located in The Marrakech at Sunway Pyramid's new wing (LG Floor). They offer traditional Thai massage. All their masseures are from Thailand and some of them speak simple English and Mandarin too.

They have special "happy hour" prices everyday before 12 noon. Its really worth it! We usually go on a Saturday morning. And last week (since I was on leave .. yeay) we dropped by on Monday again. And after 10 session, you get a free session too!

We were there 2 or 3 weeks ago since I suffer from a really bad bad pain. Well, not exactly a back pain but more of a hip bone pain. I kept telling her that my hip bones hurt like hell .. and after a few seconds of massaging, she told me its not the bones .. its the nerves thats causing the problem. She continued massaging on the painful area .. boy it hurt quite a bit .. but after a few minutes more on the same area .. I stopped feeling the pain. And this relieve lasted me till now, so I was so darn happy that day.

So I am going there again next week for "maintenance work" ... if you know what I mean. Wanna massage it more often so that the nerves will function back like normal. Hopefully.

And while you're here, don't forget to try their foot massage too if you dont like a full body massage .. their magic hands can work wonders!

Welcoming 2009!

Hello everyone! Happy New Year to all of you. I have been on leave for the past 2 weeks and just started work yesterday. First day at work was kinda ok - my "engine" started off quite easily *smile*.

For the most of the days I was on leave, I have been busy meeting up with kitchen cabinet suppliers and also window shopping around for electrical items, sofa, dining table, etc. It has been a fruitful "research" outing indeed. At least we are now more certain on where to go and which are the things we should look out for when comes the day to purchase.

One thing I did purchase at a fantastic price is my Fotile hood & hob. I have done quite a bit of research here & there and the price I got at this electrical wholesaler was just too attractive. I personally loved the owners of this outlet as well as it is managed by a hubby-wifey team and both of them were nice and friendly. Most importantly, I could see and feel they were sincere and very practical in giving us suggestions on all the items in their store. More details later.

Hubby & I also spend quite a number of days shopping. We managed to purchase our CNY clothings in a comfortable pace and in some peace. Cos Mom helped us take care of lil one. We really enjoyed the time together just browsing around in the mall, having a simple breakfast at Kim Gary (I used to crave for thier egg & ham sandwhich every single morning when I was preggie :-) and even went for another session of massage!

We also travelled to Tangkak, Johor for my cousin's wedding. We stopped by Jonker's Street for some chicken rice ball lunch with my uncle & aunts. It was a short trip but just nice for us & lil one as any longer trip would have been too taxing on us! You know right ... my lil one is super-active every single minute of the day ...

So now, I am back to the grinding stone! But hey, CNY is around the corner! And I plan to be on long leave again ...at least for 10 days ... hurray!

Why no updates geh?

Ha! Ha! Ha! Been MIA for a couple of days already. Not too lazy to blog but just no time to blog! Wah .. sound like I'm super busy huh ... but actually I am super free .... hee hee.

I'm on long annual leave ... till next year ... hurray! Well, I had to clear my 2008 annual leave and this is the first time this year that I am am on a real holiday away from the office! I am not on a "holiday" per se ... but just on leave and loitering around town ... but dont worry, I am not painting it RED :-)

So far, I have spent some time shopping for the house and also on some new clothing for the lil one for the upcoming CNY. The next day, I spend a couple of hours at the hair saloon ...which I only visit twice a year! Hubby went for his favourite past time while I was spending the few hours stuck on the chair at the saloon ... watch a movie lor .. what else. And today, we took lil one for a swim at KLCC Park .... which our dear friend refused to leave!

I must say we found some real good bargains while shopping for clothings especially for mens' clothing. Metrojaya, Parkson & even Jusco had real good bargains for quality & branded clothings for mens' casual, work attire as well as sports attire. Hubby found his CNY clothings (which were new season designs) at a whopping 70% discount! It was a special weekend bargain sale which we spotted while at Mid Valley *happy wide smile*.

Tomorrow, our plan is to take lil one to his first ever visit to our National Zoo. Then in the afternoon, we will visit a warehouse sale for kitchen goods at Puchong. I am still undecided on a hood & hob brand ... but wish to get a real good deal at this warehouse sale. So wish me luck!
