This marks my maiden try at selling home baked cookies for Chinese New Year.   I've tried several recipes that I am comfortable with and decided on the following types of cookies.

Top Row Left - Daisy Cookies - Box of 56 pcs
Top Row Right - Melting Moments - Box of 56 pcs
2nd Row Left - Pineapple Blossom Tarts - Box of 42 pcs
2nd Row Right - Love Letters by my Aunt - Tin of approx 100 pcs

Should you wish to order, do drop me an email at jlow050505@hotmail.com or like my Confections Page on Facebook.

Many thanks for all those who have already placed their orders.   Am so very thankful for your support & trust.

CNY Love Letters

This is one of the "must-have" item for us each Chinese New Year.   Love Letters!   Who does not like them?    I grew up making these with my mom, aunt, uncles & cousins but I've stopped joining them since I got married.    We used to make them in a big way for sale during CNY.    Good money but long hours in front of the charcoal grill.    I can gulp down an entire tin in no time ... how about you?  Do you like it?

Pineapple Tarts for CNY 2012

A little early for this but as I only have weekends to bake, I have already begun trying out various recipes for pineapple tarts. I must confess that this is the first time ever I have tried baking pineapple tarts and its been kinda fun!

Below is my flower blossom pineapple tart (open faced tarts).

I will also try another recipe for rolled tarts but I first have to go search for a suitable mould. I hate those plastic moulds that needs to use my thumbs to squeeze the dough out ... feel so yucks! I already have some recipes in hand and so looking forward to the next few weekends so that I can try them out.

Below is a pic of my pre-rolled pineapple paste. You really need to prepare these before handling the dough. I cooked and prepared them 2 days before and kept them in an airtight container in room temperature. You can also keep them in the fridge.

Nga Ku

Every year, Mom makes it a point to make some fried nga ku for CNY. We dont consume much but we do make it as gifts for family and friends.

Headed out to Tesco Extra last Sat to get a box of 20kg. It cost RM59.60. It contained really fresh ones and of good sizes too. Not too large and not too small. Just right for slicing and frying them.

Each year, Mom ventures out into making nga ku, love letters and muruku for own consumption as well as for family and friends. Years back, mom used to go into it almost full time, for sales during CNY. It was good money! But recent years, age is catching up and I dont see a point for her to work her butt out so hard anymore. She should slow down and enjoy the season a bit. We used to help mom each night after work, and made them till the wee hours of the night. But not anymore lah. I also tired of it edi ....
