Tom & Jerry Cupcakes

Had the pleasure of baking for Blue Ranger. Ethan turned 5 and his mommy was craving for orange poppy seed cupcakes! And yes, she is preggy .. so she has the right to crave for anything she wants .. hehehehe.

Topped with edible sugar sheets and personalised wordings, I was glad to receive a message a couple of days later, saying they enjoyed them.

Thanks again Blue Ranger for the order.

Ben 10 Cupcakes

The school had a celebration for April babies yesterday and Mommie decided on some Ben 10 cupcakes since Bryan is sooooo crazy over this series lately. Was not sure how many kids in the class but I guess a box of 16 large cuppies should be enough for the kids + teacher. The flavour of the cuppies are chocolate and iced with buttericing and a few decorated with edible images. Will have to make a full Ben 10 cake for his home celebrations this weekend and will post it up her for your comments, ok?

Father & Son Bonding Time

Its been quite a while since I have updated on Bryan. He is doing pretty well in kindy. He takes the private van to school and back. He does not have much problems but if there is a few days break in between (like CNY holidays or school term holidays) he turns a little lazy and will cry a little when its time to hit the 1st day of school after the break.

The kindy provides a meal for the kids (like friend mee hoon, biscuits, doughnuts, etc with drinks like milo or ribena ... thats what he says lah cos we ask him everyday, how was school and what he did and what did he have for tea today, etc). So I guess, he is in good hands.

Bryan started kindy for 4 yr olds this year and they start learning how to write properly. They also started Mandarin classes as well. He can now read some of the pages from his Mandarin text book. Generally, he is a bright kid .. just a bit "angin" .. wuahahaha!

Daddie has started him on computer lessons! Yes! And the younger you are, the larger your laptop .. hehehe. He enjoys reading and stories from Starfall now and a couple of times a week after dinner at home, he gets to enjoy his very own computer time (old junk from Daddie lar) ... I must say he is really good in handling the mouse. Im quite impressed at how fast he learns such skills! Not to mention he can navigate his Daddie's Iphone 4 like a pro!

Would you know of any other sites suitable for his age, do let me know ya. Thank you.

Train Cake

My very first order for a real cake for a real customer!!!! Well, so far, I've had orders for cupcakes and was busy all of Christmas fulfilling them, but this is the first time I got an order for a full whole cake!

I have baked & iced many cakes before but they were always for family and friends but this one can collect money one .. wuahahahha!

Customer only had one request and that it must be a Thomas Train cake. I googled for some ideas and finally decided on this train design as I felt it was much more attractive than a simple round or square cake. Do you like it?

Its a vanilla butter cake with buttericing. Face of Thomas was hand-moulded fondant. Every single thing on the cake board is edible including the tyres, tracks, etc :-)

The cake was almost 2.5kg *heavy*. I normally do not deliver but if its nearby or on my way, I dont mind delivering it to the customer. Qi Xuan was really really happy to see his cake! Cake deliveries are every baker's nightmare but I guess when you see a child so happy with your creation .. its indeed very satisfying.

Easy Mickey Mouse Cake

As you know by now, I started dabbling in cake baking & decorating during my (limited) leisure time. Having baked hubby his birthday cake, I decided to get Bryan his very first mommy-baked cake as well!

1st birthday = barney 3D cake
2nd birthday = Blues Clues cake
3rd birthday = what else! Mickey Mouse lor!

Limited baking tools do not deter one from baking a cute cake I guess. Of couse as usual, I only own the basics like a round or a square pan. Nothing fancy. And no Mickey Mouse cake moulds from Wilton either. So I used the cover of Bryan's milk tin to imprint the round head and then used 2 drinking classes to imprint the ears on the icing **wide smile** Next, I just had to mix the icing with the right colors and piped my way through!

And guess what I used to make sure I had the right size for the wordings "BRYAN"? Guess. Guess. Ok let me tell ya, I used his magnet alphabets that had letterings from A-Z ... huahahahaha. I washed it clean and wiped it dry. Then I imprint the magnet onto the icing again to give me a guide and piped it with colored icing lor. Creative leh!
I also baked him 16 cuppies for the birthday party for April kids in his kindy. And he was the only one with mommy-baked cakes. The rest was store bought. I was beaming with pride but probably the teachers would be saying .. aiyoh this mommy so kiam siap! Who cares!

Pianist in the making ...

I never thought of sending Bryan to music class since he has yet to turn even 3. I always had in mind to only 'expose" him to "extra curricular activities" at the age of 5. What I have in mind for the future is one musical instrument class and one sport. Or maybe 2 or 3 types of sport for a start but to later stick to one. Or let's see what he enjoys more. Or I dont know lah, let time tell .. hahaha.
This pics was taken at BIL's place during CNY. He just loved hitting on the keys! At some point, he is like pro! It's his first time ever setting foot (oops, sorry, setting fingers) on a real-sized musical instrument and I think he loved it.
Will see if there are some musical classes nearby our housing area.

Too much?

Being my first time, I had no idea what I really needed or how much. So I ended up with 2 large boxes and 4 smaller boxes of ornaments and 4 packs of lights. I ended up using only 1/3 of the ornaments and all 4 packs of lights.

This is, of course, the in-progress pic. Too tired to take pics after it was ready. Will do so in a few days.

Bryan's Room

2 weeks ago, hubby decided that we should get Bryan his own bed. A normal sized single bed and not just a kiddy bed. So off we went to Ikea (where else!) to scout for one. We liked this particular one we choose as it fitted the needs of the room. It has 3 sides covered up which works perfect. A mattress from Dunlopillo and a bedsheet from Parkson, and it was all ready for his use!

To complete the look of his room, I had earlier ordered some really super-cute wall decals from Jundeco! When I first bought them, I was wondering if they would be easy to use and apply on walls. But on the day I started pasting them on, I tell ya, it was super easy. And it looks really cool. Bryan loves his room alot! Even I love it. Its my favourite room in the entire home!

Here are some pictures to share.

Did I tell you that Bryan is crazy over flowers and butterflies??? It's crazy. Every single night and every single time he gets hold of a pen or pencil, he will ask the one nearest to him, to draw flowers and butterflies! And one session can end up making you draw at least 10-20 butterflies ok! So I decided to give him lots of flowers and butterflies in his room! The curtain supplier thought that I am decorating the room for my daughter .. hehehe. Nevermind. I am wondering if he will turn out to be a gay .. but again ... nevermind. I heard gays are much more caring and have higher disposable income!!!! And again, I dont have to deal with all those daughter-in-law issues .. wakkakakakaa! Tell me I am thinking too far ahead.

Big TV Small TV

See! Like father like son! Daddie watching on the cabinet-top TV and his son watching using his portable DVD player which we placed next to the TV.

My hubby always "complain" that our son looks and behaves more like his mommie ... but he didnt know that his son has "inherited" the daddie's gila-TV talent!

As for daddie, so long as got some pictures moving on the TV, he can watch without blinking an eye. Advertisement ka, cartoon ka, anything! Even for those dramas on wah lai toi, he just needs to watch for 10 seconds, and he knows what is happening although he did not watch the earlier episodes! Keng leh!

As for the son, luckily he is a bit more choosier ... only watch what he is "hot" for the moment. These days it is Tom & Jerry. Earlier it was Postman Pat & Blues Clues! Baby days it was Barney just like any other kid.

As for mommie, best would be Wimbledon, US Open or like now, the Rolland Garos! Best in the world man! On non-tennis seasons ... maybe an episode of Sugar, thats all.

What about your boys? Are they tv-gila as well?

Hidden Talent!

Did you know that this mommie loves to bowl? And so does Daddie! During our pak-toh (dating) days, we used to either visit the cinema every Sat or else, we will hit the bowling alley. We used to frequent the lanes at Sunway Pyramid lar .. now dunno still that hot or not that place(?).

Over the weekend (and like many other weekends), we stopped by Jusco at MV and while mommie had to do some shopping, daddie brought the brat to the little play area inside Jusco. Remember this place?

This time, daddie noticed that there was a little bowling game suitable for the lil one. For RM1 a game, my lil brat was rolling the balls away! And this game managed to get him to stay there at one place for more than 5 minutes!!!! Hurray!!!!

Hey, not bad wor!

He scored 178!

Actually, when I saw my brat bowling away, it really reminds me of the good-ole-days of the both of us just getting to do what we want to do. It was fun and life was just so much easier and less complicated then.

However, ever since Master Bryan Low came into the picture, as you have guessed, all our time is his time now.

We have hardly the opportunity to sit down together to even discuss about the renovation plans or on what or where to buy the stuff, etc, etc. The only private time we have is 20 minutes in the morning/evening when we are in the car on our way to the office. And not on all mornings you feel like talking okay?

Got future?

He looked so "pro" until his dad just stood there speechless and motionless!

It was my brat's first time visiting such places .. and he went crazy over so many choices. The thing with my brat is .. give him too many choices and he will be so distracted by all of them .. sampai he wont know what he wants .. and will be running everywhere to everything.

I really have a hard time "controlling" him everytime we go out. Be it for dinner or grocery shopping (well, that is the only 2 reasons I tag him along!) he will surely either want to run or be carried! I mean, he is 2 and averagely tall for his age, and when you carry him, its like, oh man, so big boy also wanna be carried?????

If I let go of him, he would run. Most of the time, he would swing off your hand and does not want you to hold him. Dont even have to think of this! He will not allow it on him!

If you insist, he would just sit down on the floor and once, he actually just slept on the floor - staring around at all the people walking around him in Mid Valley - he finds it cute!!!! I just let him be! I walked over and asked him (while he was still lying down flat on the floor and people were smiling & looking at us) - Bryan, why are you sleeping here? Why? Nice ar here ... you want bolster? He smiled at me.

I guess boys will be boys?

Bryan's 2nd Birthday

We celebrated the lil fella's birthday last Friday. It was again a family-only affair as I dont see a point in hosting a big birthday celebration since he is too young to understand. Moreover, he does not have any friends of his own yet, right?

Both Mommie & Daddie took the day off to spend some time with him. First thing that morning, we headed off to the Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple for a blessing service.

Then off we went to Aquaria KLCC to let him see some fishes .. but as usual he ran more than anything else! We had to cover the place in 2-3 rounds cos most of the time we had to run after him and did not have a chance to view anything! And since we had to pay a bomb, we had to just view the not-so-impressive fishes. I feel like suggesting to them to have special cheaper prices for us, Malaysians! It's too expensive for what they can offer inside!

By noon, both of us were like dead cows! Sent him back to mom's place for his nap while we went out to collect his cake.

Then it was dinner at Lala Chong .. one of our favourite place for tau fu kang! Its damn good! A bit far .. but once in a blue moon, what the heck!

So glad to be back at home at the end of the day. It was more tiring than going to work! I bless my mom .. who can (no choice, have to) take care of him at least 10 hours a day while we are at work!

Hopefully next year when he turns 3, he will have some friends from his playgroup at his nursery and then perhaps Mommie will hosts a small party for him at our new house then ... yeah!

P/S : Coming to think of it, perhaps I should be the one that needs "blessings" .. oh god! When on earth can I stop the night feeds!!!

I won!

Oh my god ... you know ar .. I am never the kind who wins prizes at all okay. I mean, I never get lucky at lucky draws, never kena number or lottery and never win anything at any contests okay? The only thing I won many years ago was hubby's heart *double wink*.

I was sooooo surprised when I received an email from Lil Twinkle .. saying that I won the lucky draw prize wor ... feels so nice. Althought it was a small gift, but the feeling of participating in such mini-give-aways are so much fun .. all in the spirit of healthy blogging.

The gift was a Toddler Safety Harness Backpack which was perfect to keep my fart in place when we go shopping! For more details, visit here.

It is a bit small for my fart cos its meant for those below the age of 2 but nevetheless, I tried it on him and he didnt not quite like it ... gosh! He actually is pretty much like mommie. We dont like add-ons like scarf, sunglasses, hats, etc. We prefer something simple and comfy like jeans & tee *wink*. Nevertheless, I will try on him again when we go out shopping next.

For more details on Lil Twinkle, check out their online shopping site here. Its a baby & kids online store specialising in mostly boys attires but carries a good range for girls too.

Lil one goes bed-shopping!

Right after his shopping spree with DVDs, lil one headed straight to check out Harvey Norman. Well, actually mommie & daddie wanted to check our Harvey Norman .. to shop for a replacement water-heater since the one in our room broke down.

As usual, our dear lil fella cant walk. He has to run. Running all over the store until he came across the section where all the cute beddings and bedspreads for kiddos.

He decided to "test-sleep" them .. every single one of them! Climbing up onto one and then down to sleep on the next bed. So naughty of him .. but I allowed him to explore .. since the salesperson also did not bother.

Check out his dirty shoes ... eeee ... luckily the sales person did not notice .. otherwise, no way can lil one be allowed to climb onto the beds!

Naughty fella!
Naughtier mommie!!

*scratch head*

Looking out for a pressie for my lil one who turns 2 this week, but so many choices .. dunno how or what to choose!

Visited a wholesaler nearby Jalan Raja Laut (near The Mall) and did some bargaining. Not sure if its a good price but I dont have the luxury to visit shopping malls that often these days.

My visit to Q Jelly .. pretty!!!!

Last weekend, I also decided to check out Q-Jelly, the much talked-about bakery that specialises in jelly cakes. Oh my god! They are just so pretty! Especially those barbie doll cakes .. they all have such a lovely colourful jelly gown!!!!

From their display counter, I saw so many lovely jellies in such beautiful and cute designs. Hubby suggested we buy some to get a taste of their cakes. So we choose a pack of mini-animal themed jelly pieces that comes in both chocolate & strawberry flavours. Hmmm... yummy lah! But not cheap at all lah.

I went through their album to see if there is a Blue's Clues charactered jelly cake which I thought would be perfect for lil one's birthday next week. Unfortunately, they only have the rights to Disney's characters ..what a pity.
I went home thinking about jelly cakes and I was wondering how on earth people can sell such cakes for so much when the ingredients cost so little! I, therefore, tried, doing one on my own that same afternoon! With limited ingredients at home, I embarked on my jelly cake journey ... to some disappointment *sob sob*.

I must say I loved the texture of my own jelly cake attempt. Sweetness was just right and texture and "chewiness" was just right for me.

The only thing not right was it lacked the "vibrant" colors as I was too afraid they would turn out too "bright" and might look artificial if I added too much food coloring. I also did not have any milk or coconut milk to add to the "in-between" layers, so the colored layers looked as if they are all combined into one. And also, I dont have the proper moulds to mould them into cute little art pieces like the ones we bought lar. So many excuses eh?

Nevertheless, I was not demotivated. I vow to learn to make these lovely desserts to something more presentable someday! I promise!

But can someone show me a really good method to keep the remainder of the boiled jelly warm while the individual layering cools down? Should I maintain them over low heat in the pot? Waste gas wor ... Someone told me to place the boiled jelly pot into a larger pot of hot water and when the hot water cools, down replace with more hot water. But practically, I find it more troublesome since I need to boil more hot water every 10 mins or so to refill the pot right? How? How? Any easier fool proof method?

D-Day is coming nearer and nearer...

I felt a sense of excitement rushing inside me last evening. We visited our new home site and it really seems like its ready for handover to the purchasers .. meaning "us" ... real soon! The units (particularly mine!) was nicely painted up in 2 coats of paint and the insides were all washed and cleaned and the air-conditioners were seen installed in the living room already ... yippee!!

So from now on, my renovation ideas, home furnishing and home electrical items shopping plans (especially our LCD TV!!!!) will be on a fast-forward track from now on! But this also signals the beginning of all headaches right? There are so much to think, consider and decide. Then there is always the $$$ issue.

Let's see .. we have the interior design to think of, the home garden to decide on, the kitchen cabinets, yes kitchen cabinets of course .. and from the dining right to the bedrooms, the washyard, etc etc and if budget permits, perhaps even a home-office for hubby. Yeah!

But I still cant figure out it is indeed worth it for me to engage an interior designer to take over the headache from me. As much as I would love to shop and do up the place on my own, I doubt I can have the freedom to go out and check out the latest trends at the various exhibitions in town. Life is just not the same since the lil one came along ...aaarrrrggggg!

But before all this, I need to shop for lil one's birthday gift. I have decided on this perfect item for him. He would love me dearly for it. I am sure he will. I know he will. He'd better!!!!

He decides for himself ..

Time flies. My lil brat is a big boy now. He knows what he wants. We cannot change his mind. He is pretty stubborn .. like me .. kekeke.

On one of our visits to Mid Valley, we dropped by Carrefour to stock up on Mamypoko disposable diapers. Its cheaper here .. usually abt RM48.80 compared to Jusco which can sometime price it at RM52.90. When Carrefour is on sale, its even cheaper at RM42.80. So almost 10 bucks in savings per pack.

My lil one usually heads for his favourite department ... which is the toys lor .. where else right? But he does not go for the cars or balls. He only goes for the bicycles. Popo (his maternal grandma) promised to buy him one for his birthday next month. So our lil fart quickly grabbed one and .... see the price tag ..??? Not to bad lar .. so ok ok, we will KIV this for him.

As for me, I have not decided what to get him yet .. but I do have something in mind. Will have to start looking out for some bargains.

The Boss!

No! No! Not referring to Bruce Lee ... but Bryan Low instead!

Eh, only realised while typing this that both of them have the same initials .. no wonder lah same title aka Big Boss ... but different pose *wink*.

This is how my lil one enjoys his afternoons these days. With a nice warm bottle of milk in hand, while lying down with his "shake legs" pose and enjoying .. what else .. but his favourite ... Barney dvd.

He really knows how to enjoy life doesn't he? Hope that when he grows up, he will know how to earn enough money to sustain his new found hobby!

Learning to write with Aqua Doodle

My lil one is now 21 months old and he is learning to write .. on the wall .. on the cushions .. on his hands and feet .. on the floor .. on his grandma's legs ... everywhere!

We started off with pencils and paper, then upgraded to pens cos the pencils easily breaks off with lil one handling it so rough. The headache with pens is that .. you know lah .. cannot be rubbed off! So we have lines drawn all over grandma's house!

Hubby spotted this really cool toy for him to learn to write. Its called the Aqua Doodle! I normally do not allow hubby to buy anything expensive (by my standards la .. cos I am an alcheapo mommie mah) but this one - I must say is a GOOD BUY! Well done hubby! I simply love it.

Its basically a mat that can only be drawn using a marker filled with just water. After scribbling or drawing, the image dries off by itself in a minute or two and the mat is all clear again for new scribbling!

Lil one has been busy with this toy since we got it for him two weeks ago from Jusco. But of course having "lil monster" as a nickname has its reason ... my lil one decided to test out the marker in his mouth and realised that it has got water .. and since then, he would try to put the marker in his mouth and suck the water out like as if its his Barney water tumbler! Headache!
